If the car is SIGNIFICANTLY damaged, i.e. totaled, I could agree with you reason. Until I know that for sure, I'm siding with the officer.
    <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can agree with that.

I'm just basing damage on the description of how the accident happened and my experience of driving on I-75, a truly nutty piece of roadway. Plus the family has based their opinion on the extent of the damage to the vehicle.

I'm betting the damage to the car was fairly extensive.

Yes, Trav and I do have a story about neighborhood thugs and a letter to the CPD and City Council about the behavior of the responding officers.

Within 48 hours of emailing everyone, an officer was at our door, listened to our side of the story, and apologized about the behavior of the responding officers.

Since that incident, I haven't seen the responding officers in the neighborhood. Perhaps they're still in sensitivity training.

WRT the subject of the thread, I can't see where the police are at fault. I'll side with Jump and GS on this one. There was no physical evidence that a body had been thrown from the car, and I think it's ludicrous that CPD should be expected to set up a perimiter around every abandoned car -- just in case. 75 is already a nightmare; that would just make it worse.

You also are not answering the question of how far is out is your perimeter, how long do you search and how much manpower to you use in the search? Let's hear some specifics here.
